⚓️ Charles Booth, the shipowner and social reformer, died on this day in 1916. 📕 Booth lived in Grace Dieu Manor, Thringstone for the last 30 years of his life, and is best known for his book 'Life and Labour of the People in London'.

📅 Thomas Babington, politician and philanthropist, died on this day in 1837. 🏛️ Born in Charnwood Forest, and resident of Rothley Temple, Babington is most well known for his campaigns to abolish slavery.

📅 Hugh Latimer, one of the Oxford Martyrs of Anglicanism, died on this day in 1555. ✝️ Latimer was born in Thurcaston, Charnwood Forest, and went on to become Bishop of Worcester. Under the Catholic Queen Mary I he was executed for his religious beliefs.
