This Fourth of July, I am taking a moment to reflect. Things are hard right now. They are probably going to get worse before they get better. But I love our country — and when you love something, you fight for it. Together, we will continue to fight for the ideals of our nation.

I do not believe that books can be nutritious, or bad for your health. I do not believe that books can have ages or genders. But I do believe the books we love are the ones that make us readers - and I do believe every reader should have the right to choose what they read. #books #literacy

Why does this shelf display feel subversive?

Participating in a book study of Richard Culatta's Digital for Good and these two paragraphs from the first reading really hit me. I've deleted Facebook and Twitter in the last two months because of their lack of being this kind of space.

Spent the day talking to Europeans, and nobody can think of any precedent for what Musk just did to the US Congress. There is no businessman with that much power, the power to stop a routine spending bill, anywhere else in the democratic world.

It seems like we're headed here AGAIN for the holidays. For the life of me, I can't figure out how Musk wound up in charge of my family's livelihood. I hate it here.

Surround yourself with the kind of people who read banned books.

My youngest is 18 today. I have two "grown-ups" for children. Weird.

I'm so honored to be this person in my school.

This week's library lessons are winding down. We did an ABC Brainstorm of the things we're thankful for, read Elaine Vickers' poetic Thankful with dialogic questions, and made our own school-wide thankful chain. I love how thoughtful this can get my students.

I am the wife of a federal employee (career Forest Service) and the mom of 2 kids, one who is LGBTQ. I do not know how to protect my family from the impending shitstorm.

Firsties are coloring and one tiny little boy is singing "Last Christmas" for his whole table to enjoy.

My husband is career Forest Service. This, even though we knew it was coming, is terrifying.

Happy Caturday

Today is my 46th birthday. I woke up, came to school to teach my library classes, and wore my brand new Chucks. 😭 Did not say anything when my 5th graders asked who I voted for and then started a Trump chant. What a stupid day for a birthday.

Our local school board has thrown their total support behind our elementary libraries this year, especially in a financial sense. Today, we welcomed students back to an almost entirely new and diverse collection of books.
