This advice is almost exactly the same as the advice I get as a musician (learn how to use your ears, hear what you want it to sound like before you start doing it, pay attention to the bits you don't normally pay attention to, etc), and I think it's rly cool how similar the disciplines can be !

And THIS is why beginner art is also so fucking interesting and fascinating, because when you haven't spent a lot of time working on this, your artwork will very clearly reveal what you look at the most. If a beginner artist draws a face, you know what parts of the face they look at while chatting.

This is such a good point. A lot of skill as an artist comes from being able to see things. To me the technical stuff is kind of secondary. Many of the things I think I'm good at drawing boil down to like, "sometimes in the spring I like to go outside and just stare at trees, they're neat."

Related, I've floated the idea of pulling out my old copy of pre-creative-cloud Flash (before it was called Animate) and using it for some animation projects occasionally like dioramas. Can Wine handle that nowadays? Like if I threw Flash 8 on a Linux box, would it run well and without bugs?

Genuine question - does anypony know why no other animation software replicates Animate/Flash's concept of nested timelines and clip instances? Do they have a patent on it? It is one of the most innovative, powerful animation concepts out there, it's almost 20 years old, and NOTHING else does it.
