Been working on making a more powerful saidi. There are so many styles of dance that includes the cane/ stick/ assaya so I try to keep my style closest to the vibe you see in the region (while still keeping it me). 6. My shows this weekend were referred to me by other dancers- that vote of confidence means so much One of my goals this year is to feel surrounded by support. It’s really feeling like that, in a world that seems fully dedicated to separating us all.

4. Patricia Clark-Gilley is helping organize a virtual class with Kyrria Mazin and musicians from Luxor. 5. I’m working on a very ambitious finger cymbal piece that’s finally starting to feel natural, though not complete. Im excited to get this to folks for feedback.

2. Adrienne Thor, Margarita Ramos, and I have started a traditional dance group I’m pretty excited about. 3. RaqsNews has started a black belly dance directory. We’ve been getting a ton of people request to be added. (Majda Anwar Qaqish getting to work with you is a literal dream)

Things are politically incredibly frustrating and infuriating. Here’s a list of things I’m excited about to keep myself going- 1. Rhinestone Revolution: Spectacular Showcase is already shaping up really well. (This is a hint to sign up for workshops and get into the show now)

Mindfulness in movement (for me) is underpinned by some core beliefs: 1. There is no wrong movement. Commit. 2. Stay in your body. Don’t observe 3. The magic will guide you how to move- let it do its job 4. Take care. Be compassionate for where you are at today.

I’m not even sure people care. When I send over the creepy photos and I get a “well I used ai it is what it is” No! Take some pride. Think about what you are trying to teach. Your students deserve quality thoughts. Ai can be a tool, but you have to be the one to provide the ideas.

Or photos that are creepy (with extra hands). if taking your classes mean I get an extra hand I’m not showing up

Maybe my controversial take- while I’m not going to rail against AI workshop descriptions that scream AI where I can’t even figure out what they are teaching is not it. Like I need to know what I’m learning about or I’m not spending my money

Me as a kid- dancing with my mom (and I can assure you not playing those cymbals) while my mother no longer dances, it’s so nice to have that time together. Being raised around so many women as a kid helped build my self esteem in a way I think is really special.
