The camaraderie in the crossword community is so cool, particularly in a tournament setting. I love solving along with hundreds of people who enjoy this hobby just as much as I do (if not more) and who are so kind and welcoming to boot. When I started making crosswords in 2003 it was a community of a certain kind of weirdo. Since then there have been several waves of new kinds of weirdo and now it’s a special intergenerational weirdo community. Truly just a big win for humanity.

Non-crossword content: My daughter is in 4th grade and has been educating me on Gen Alpha culture. Her friend said my kid is “Y2K” (she is absolutely not lol). I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of aesthetics wiki to learn more. My high school years are the most cringy aesthetic, hands down, dear God

Trivial question: When solving crosswords on paper, do you fill in using all capital letters or all lowercase letters? I’ve been trying to use lowercase letters lately to increase my speed, but it feels weird. I’m curious as to what other people do!

I’ve had this Twitter thread saved for years and send it to everyone who says they think they can’t do crosswords because looking things up is “cheating.” @adamconover.net completely changed my mindset with this thread and inspired me pursue my (now favorite) pastime. Go forth and reference! 💜
