My jaw hit the floor this morning when I saw a FRONT PAGE obituary for Marilyn Hagerty in the NY Times. She was the food writer at the Grand Forks (N.D.) Herald. But when I worked there she covered the "people" beat. In a state of fewer than 800,000 people, I'll bet she knew every last one of them!

If you're in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Saturday, come down to the Pleasant Peninsula Mural Festival to see Max Coleman's Kirtland's Warbler. Max's mural is just one of several that is being installed on Pearl Street underneath the US-131 overpass. All the murals are of endangered species.

Just learned that UMich athletic department is considering either renovating Yost Ice Arena or building a new 10,000 seat arena on the south athletic campus. I find the idea of leaving Yost appalling.
