The last couple of months, I did not GM as much as I used to. I only did some black box scenes for our VtM chronicle, and short sessions at a convention. But tonight, I ran a 4-hour long Vaesen oneshot, in which I finally felt confident again with my GM’ing, and not totally exhausted afterwards.

I got to run intro sessions of When the End Comes (my own TTRPG) and Vampire the Masquerade at a convention (Main Quest Con) today and yesterday. I forgot how much fun it is to introduce players to a new system/game. Now I have no social spoons left, so I’ll be sleeping for the next few days.

Tonight, I’m going to GM a Vampire the Masquerade session in which we do black box scenes for the PCs to get to know them and their Touchstones better. This is also the first session after deciding that we are going to do a hard reset on the chronicle. Let’s start over!

I’m rewriting the premisse for my Vampire the Masquerade chronicle. I had no idea what my drive was and where the story would go. I’m now figuring that out with my players before we continue the story. The GM is also a player who should enjoy the story, so don’t be afraid to admit it is you aren’t.

How do you deal with imposter syndrome as a #TTRPG Game Master? I have a session to GM this evening, and I have prep ready. But it’s meager at best, or at least, it feels that way. What do you do to hype yourself up and make the best of what you got at the moment?

I’m looking for recommendations for 2-player #TTRPGs or correspondence games/scenarios to play. GMless,co-op or one-on-one GM + 1 player. I have a big itch.io collection of them, but I’m looking for more. Ironsworn and adjacent games are already covered, same as Dead Letter Society.

Well, that ended differently than expected. No meeting, but one on the run and the other captured. I love the characters we created and the story that developed through the letters. There is an open ending, so maybe we will discover how their story continues later down the line. I ❤️ TTRPGs!

I am writing my final letter for this game of Dead Letter Society. There is a feeling of sadness, since I have grown attached to the vampires we’ve created. But their story has been epic and took many turns we didn’t expect. Right up until the end, with a possible meeting in their near future…

I joined a Vampire the Requiem one-shot yesterday, in which the other 3 players had no experience with the World of Darkness at all. It’s always fun to see the exact moment the vibe and setting click in their heads. Politics and moral dilemmas, that’s what they asked for and that’s what they got.

#TTRPG Dead Letter Society update: When you send your letter with the CW: bleak, and the other player responds with “Yikes” after reading it, you are doing something right, right?! Sometimes the player’s mood is reflected in the character’s, and let’s just say mine wasn’t the best when I wrote it.

We are 4 cycles in in a game of correspondence and journaling TTRPG #DeadLetterSociety, and this story is getting intense. It turned into an elaborate story about trust, betrayal and the question whether it’s better to find companionship or to live in isolation in order to survive.

This afternoon, I completed #ClairObscurExpedition33. What a wonderful journey and amazing storytelling! I don’t cry often with video games, but the end made me a blubbering mess 😭

Last Saturday, a friend and I started a game of the #TTRPG Dead Letter Society, set in the Victorian era meets gothic romance, and I’m so invested. My fledgling vampire, a young upper class woman whose sire disappeared, entered correspondence with his centuries old kindred who’s located in India.

Tonight, we did black box scenes (idea stolen from Vampire: the Requiem 2e/amazing Storyteller for our NY by Night chronicle) with our Vampire: the Masquerade Amsterdam by Night crew. It was interesting to dive into the past of the PCs, and to discover additional nuances in their personalities.

An upside of being ill is having a lot of time to rewatch LA by Night. In following of Jason Carl, I take a lot of notes that certainly are going to come in handy at dramatically appropriate moments in my own chronicle.

When you combine two levels of exhaustion from mental health struggles and COVID, and one of the only thing you can manage to do in a day is reading a couple of pages, it was perfect timing for this Kickstarter reward to arrive in my mail last week.

I haven’t been posting recently, because my mental health has taken a turn for the worse. Like my therapist said: “It’s a lot. How are you handling it?” My answer: “I’m not.” But just like Dory said: “Just keep swimming.” And keep playing TTRPGs and pretending that everything will be okay.

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish the game I’m working on for #BreathlessJam2 in time. The death of my grandfather changed my schedule, and now the depression numbness is hitting hard. But if not now, then maybe in the future I’ll get to finish it. We’ll see…

The combo of dealing with depression and grieving my grandfather, who passed away last Sunday, is a lot. Writing, TTRPGs and games help me keep my head as straight as possible. But it’s not easy. What do you do to get through challenging times?

I didn’t get to playtest my new game (Sleep No More, based on Breathless SRD by @rpdeshaies.farirpgs.com) tonight, but I talked it through with friends. And they gave me some really good ideas and suggestions. I think I’m almost done with the ruleset. Next step: layout! #BreathlessJam2

2 of my Delta Green Agents/PCs died this week: - Agent Baker, who blew up herself and a house she believed was controlled by the Unnatural. - Agent Hoguera, who in her short time as a DG Agent had come across such unspeakable horrors, she didn’t trust her own mind and team anymore. Rest in peace.

TTRPG this week: - playing Vampire: the Requiem, we need to escape a building after taking some heavy damage. - playing Delta Green, probably the last session since there’s no way these characters can continue their investigation. - running Vampire: the Masquerade, where everything is fine. I have a couple of ideas for #BreathlessJam2, but I think I’m going with an idea of which the working title is ‘Sleep No More’. It has to do with trying to escape a nightmare, and I’m planning on calling the GM The Sandman.

An end of an era: RIP Agent Baker (Alexandra Porter) Tonight, my Delta Green PC that I played for almost 3 years, died when blowing up a house the Unnatural called home. The burden of being the handler of B cell became too great to bear. Hopefully, her sacrifice will not be in vain. #TTRPG

The first Breathless Jam has brought me so much. When the End Comes is one of my favorite things I have created so far, and I’m grateful for the support I’ve got through it. Now it’s time for the Breathless Jam 2. I’ve not chosen the final concept yet, so I better hurry up.

I want to start working on a new game/TTRPG. Nothing too big or fancy, but I miss trying out ideas and rules until they click. I don’t know if it’s going to be a solo game or for a group, but I’ll probably end up in the horror genre again 😅

Sometimes it’s better to keep silent as a Storyteller when the players draw conclusions about the situation at hand. The wrong conclusions, but hey, maybe the Baron in our Vampire: the Masquerade chronicle is in cahoots with the Camarilla… Or not, and it’s all red herrings… We’ll find out soon…

Our Delta Green cell has completely gone of the rails. 2 Agents have torched a house to cover up the bodies they left behind. The other 3 Agents are trying to get the police of their back, after stealing a truck and crashing through a state border control point. It’ll be fine 😅

I finally got myself to write again. I finished the last NPC profile for the Vampire the Masquerade setting book I’ve been working on with my co-Storyteller. These are babysteps, but each additional word on the page means one small victory over those self-limiting thoughts. One word at a time…

TTRPGs this week: - running Vampire: the Masquerade for our podcast (hopefully, after a 4 month hiatus) - playing VtM, set in Amersfoort - playing Delta Green, Impossible Landscapes Playing pretend helps me through darker times, even though these games themselves are quite grim.

Everything is looking up for at least one member of the coterie in our Vampire: the Masquerade chronicle. His garage is open again after being closed for 2 days by order of the police, and he apologized to his coterie member after an incident last night. Everything is coming up roses, right?

In our VtR session, my Mekhet PC is starting to go off the rails, ghouling an NPC. In our DG session, the whole cell is going off the rails and one half of the team is driving around with a regenerating corpse in the trunk. Maybe my mental state does rub off on my TTRPG sessions and characters?

I’ve picked up editing the recordings of our future Actual Play podcast again. It really helps me focus in times when my head is all over the place. What do you do to calm your mind?

I’ve been struggling which resulted in me not being able to GM for a couple of weeks and even having to cancel a session at a convention today. But yesterday I was back in the Storyteller seat for our VtM chronicle, and I think it was an okay session. Which is a win at this point.
