This week is a little bit TTRPG empty. Only a Delta Green/Impossible Landscape session this Friday. It gives me time though to select books (fiction or TTRPG) to read next week when I’m recovering from surgery (torn ACL replacement). Do you have any recommendations?

Yesterday's session of our Vampire the Masquerade chronicle, Amsterdam by Night, was the first session in a long time that I felt comfortable in my GMing, thanks to my amazing players who picked up the threads I put down and had strong IC conversations among themselves. This year, I'll be joining Flash Fiction February (#FlashFicFeb) by @storytellingco.bsky.social for the fourth time. 28 days, 28 prompts, 28 short stories. I started using this to flesh out backgrounds of NPCs in my Vampire the Masquerade chronicle. I'm going to continue that line this year.

I ran a 1-on-1 session yesterday for a Vampire the Masquerade chronicle I am a guest player in sometimes. I played Elena again, which is always a delight. I got to explore her manipulative and seductive side, and I have to say: she is one scary Lasombra when she tries to get you under her control.

I am doing a solo playthrough of Death of the Author by @goblinmixtape.bsky.social. The story starts to turn into a spicy novella about a young actress in NY whose affair with an older actor gets exposed. And now his son entered the picture?! Not my normal vibe, but it’s fun to write though 😇

So cool to see this list of all these European creatives! Thank you, @euphoriaap.bsky.social, for putting a spotlight on these wonderful games and creatives :) And if you look closely, you'll find a certain little horror game on there that I had such a fun time making.

Normally, October would be filled to the brim with horror TTRPG sessions and streams. But this year, I’ve taken a step back to overcome the monsters in my own mind. Which doesn’t mean everything needs to be cozy and nice. What is your favorite horror TTRPG to run/play this month?

The last couple of months, I did not GM as much as I used to. I only did some black box scenes for our VtM chronicle, and short sessions at a convention. But tonight, I ran a 4-hour long Vaesen oneshot, in which I finally felt confident again with my GM’ing, and not totally exhausted afterwards.

I got to run intro sessions of When the End Comes (my own TTRPG) and Vampire the Masquerade at a convention (Main Quest Con) today and yesterday. I forgot how much fun it is to introduce players to a new system/game. Now I have no social spoons left, so I’ll be sleeping for the next few days.

Tonight, I’m going to GM a Vampire the Masquerade session in which we do black box scenes for the PCs to get to know them and their Touchstones better. This is also the first session after deciding that we are going to do a hard reset on the chronicle. Let’s start over!

I’m rewriting the premisse for my Vampire the Masquerade chronicle. I had no idea what my drive was and where the story would go. I’m now figuring that out with my players before we continue the story. The GM is also a player who should enjoy the story, so don’t be afraid to admit it is you aren’t.

How do you deal with imposter syndrome as a #TTRPG Game Master? I have a session to GM this evening, and I have prep ready. But it’s meager at best, or at least, it feels that way. What do you do to hype yourself up and make the best of what you got at the moment?

I’m looking for recommendations for 2-player #TTRPGs or correspondence games/scenarios to play. GMless,co-op or one-on-one GM + 1 player. I have a big itch.io collection of them, but I’m looking for more. Ironsworn and adjacent games are already covered, same as Dead Letter Society.

Well, that ended differently than expected. No meeting, but one on the run and the other captured. I love the characters we created and the story that developed through the letters. There is an open ending, so maybe we will discover how their story continues later down the line. I ❤️ TTRPGs!

I am writing my final letter for this game of Dead Letter Society. There is a feeling of sadness, since I have grown attached to the vampires we’ve created. But their story has been epic and took many turns we didn’t expect. Right up until the end, with a possible meeting in their near future…

I joined a Vampire the Requiem one-shot yesterday, in which the other 3 players had no experience with the World of Darkness at all. It’s always fun to see the exact moment the vibe and setting click in their heads. Politics and moral dilemmas, that’s what they asked for and that’s what they got.

#TTRPG Dead Letter Society update: When you send your letter with the CW: bleak, and the other player responds with “Yikes” after reading it, you are doing something right, right?! Sometimes the player’s mood is reflected in the character’s, and let’s just say mine wasn’t the best when I wrote it.

We are 4 cycles in in a game of correspondence and journaling TTRPG #DeadLetterSociety, and this story is getting intense. It turned into an elaborate story about trust, betrayal and the question whether it’s better to find companionship or to live in isolation in order to survive.

This afternoon, I completed #ClairObscurExpedition33. What a wonderful journey and amazing storytelling! I don’t cry often with video games, but the end made me a blubbering mess 😭

Last Saturday, a friend and I started a game of the #TTRPG Dead Letter Society, set in the Victorian era meets gothic romance, and I’m so invested. My fledgling vampire, a young upper class woman whose sire disappeared, entered correspondence with his centuries old kindred who’s located in India.

Tonight, we did black box scenes (idea stolen from Vampire: the Requiem 2e/amazing Storyteller for our NY by Night chronicle) with our Vampire: the Masquerade Amsterdam by Night crew. It was interesting to dive into the past of the PCs, and to discover additional nuances in their personalities.

An upside of being ill is having a lot of time to rewatch LA by Night. In following of Jason Carl, I take a lot of notes that certainly are going to come in handy at dramatically appropriate moments in my own chronicle.

When you combine two levels of exhaustion from mental health struggles and COVID, and one of the only thing you can manage to do in a day is reading a couple of pages, it was perfect timing for this Kickstarter reward to arrive in my mail last week.

I haven’t been posting recently, because my mental health has taken a turn for the worse. Like my therapist said: “It’s a lot. How are you handling it?” My answer: “I’m not.” But just like Dory said: “Just keep swimming.” And keep playing TTRPGs and pretending that everything will be okay.

I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to finish the game I’m working on for #BreathlessJam2 in time. The death of my grandfather changed my schedule, and now the depression numbness is hitting hard. But if not now, then maybe in the future I’ll get to finish it. We’ll see…

The combo of dealing with depression and grieving my grandfather, who passed away last Sunday, is a lot. Writing, TTRPGs and games help me keep my head as straight as possible. But it’s not easy. What do you do to get through challenging times?
