Brian Glanville. A fantastic man to be around. Great company for anyone who wanted to know about football history. He’d come on the phone to me and I’d groan. I was going to fall behind in work but, by god, the next two hours would be entertaining

Brian Glanville was an absolute legend. To read his work was one thing, but to meet him and see him at work was another. A privilege. A fantastic wordsmith and a brilliant journalist. Once saw him file copy in 3 languages at Arsenal, while I struggled to do so in my own. A literary genius. RIP

Brian Glanville. The maestro of his craft. A fierce critic, fantastic wordsmith, and a true original. Sitting next to him in the press box, it was a marvel how he picked up the phone at the end of the game, with barely a note, and dictated perfect prose off the cuff. An eternal bravo. Rest well.

The greatest of all football writers is no more. Brian Glanville had died, aged 93. A model, an inspiration, a mentor. Addio, Brian.

RIP Brian Glanville, doyen of football writers. I worked with Brian often; he could be fun, or prickly (🤯), but when he spoke, you listened. He KNEW. And his script for Goal! (Fifa's 66 World Cup film) is a classic of lean writing... "the Italians go home... to their tomatoes..."

RIP the one and only Brian Glanville. Long after the press room hubbub had dissolved into the murmur of laptops so the clackety-clack of an old Lettera away in the corner provided an assurance that The Master was with us.

The SJA sends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Brian Glanville, the “doyen of football writers” whose many books - including the essential ‘The Story of the World Cup’ - continue to bring so much insight, knowledge and joy to fans everywhere. RIP Brian.
