How do I come up with "original" (as in, new-to-me) math problems? It always starts with wondering. Like: What if a set 𝑆 ∈ ℝ² had the property that if points A and B are in 𝑆, then so is the midpoint of segment AB? Then I just start wondering things about 𝑆. Curiosity is such a powerful engine.

I know that the common wisdom is that getting rigorous in algebra class (e.g. justifying every step when solving an equation) would spell disaster for those who typically struggle in math. Part of me wonders, though, whether some students in that category might actually be CRAVING that. #iteachmath
