A Westphalian in Manchester. I am a travel writer, allotment lover and hoarder of books.
I'm using my newfound freedom after being made redundant by travelling around South Wales and exploring the Gower and Pembrokeshire. So much nicer than being stuck in a stuffy classroom all day - so thank you, Mr Headteacher.

Today's harvest, and there are plenty more to come. At this rate I'll be eating pumpkin soup for the foreseeable future.

I am staying at Gladstone's Library in Hawarden and all I can hear is non-stop church bells! 😍 it's almost like being in Köln.

Der Rhein von oben - a quick trip to Germany to ensure that my postal vote would get there in time. Alice Weidel is so deeply sinister that she manages to make even Farage seem almost normal in comparison.. (well, *almost*....)

It’s odd, this was probably the first celebrity death I can remember which really affected me. Ruhe in Frieden, Nico

The nice thing about paying tax in the UK is that when you call up HMRC they call you ma'am and are terribly polite. Which comes as quite a shock when you are used to German officials!

Hey authors, don’t forget that if you use
bookshop.org
instead of that great big place, you will be helping out indie bookshops - very few of who make so much they are dabbling with building rockets - you can even choose which bookshop
uk.bookshop.org/shop/booksho...

One of my favourite places in Manchester - Chetham's Library, hidden away behind the Football Museum. It's got medieval cat flaps and you can sit in the alcove in which Marx and Engels used to work.

There is a delicious folklore of occulted gardens. Places where beyond the walls it is always summer even when November growls and shows its cold teeth. Rumour of covenants with Faery, land so strangely enclosed that on certain nights you can even glimpse of two moons. –

Hey fellow Germans abroad: now is an excellent time to check that you are on the right list to vote from abroad!
