The SC State Senate has passed H4756, which requires that people use restrooms that match their birth certificates. The bill applies to K-12 public schools as well as higher education facilities and events, including arts performances and sporting events.

Conversations with my mother often get me thinking. When I was recently telling her about all of the proposed laws that would harm transgender people, she wondered why lawmakers were spending so much time attacking a small population. When I couldn't stop thinking about our chat, I started writing.

Spot on commentary: bills like H4756 and S199 don't make anyone safer. They encourage (and facilitate via lawsuits) questioning of who belongs in restrooms, threatening women and girls who don't meet society's standards of what a woman should look like.
