New @nature.com paper from Jack Wharton @ucl.ac.uk. Using deep-ocean sediments, the study shows that North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) formation during the Last Glacial Maximum persisted at similar depths to today & was much warmer than previously assumed. 📄 www.nature.com/articles/s41... <1/3>

📣 New EPOC results reveal that during the last ice age the Atlantic’s powerful current system remained active and continued to transport warm, salty water from the tropics to the North Atlantic despite extensive ice cover across much of the Northern Hemisphere. We left yesterday from sunny Tromsø for the annual #FramStraitNPI cruise aboard #FFKronprinsHaakon! We'll spend the next 3 weeks at around 79°N in Fram Strait, collecting lots of oceanographic data and samples for the @epocproject.bsky.social and several other projects. Stay tuned for updates!
