Yesterday, the Michigan Court of Appeals ruled that Speaker Hall must present the nine bills that were passed last term to the Governor. I am grateful to the Court for ruling once again that House Leadership must abide by our Constitution and present these bills to Governor Whitmer.

I joined the Ingham County Commissioner’s Office to announce the $750,000 state budget funding to repair the Lake Lansing Dam. Lake Lansing receives over 300,000 visitors a year, and making these much needed repairs will allow for Michiganders to enjoy the Lake’s amenities for years to come.

Yesterday, Governor Whitmer pardoned St. John’s resident and Hmong community leader, Lue Yang, who was detained by ICE agents at his place of work in July. We are appealing to DHHS and ICE to release him and return him to his family and home here in Michigan.

This weekend is the annual MSU vs. U of M football game and the Michigan House showed their school pride!! As both a Spartan and Wolverine, I was wearing green and white and maize and blue yesterday to show my support for my Alma Maters. Good luck to both MSU and U of M, and stay safe football fans!

It was wonderful to see my neighbor, Reverend Alice Fleming Townley deliver yesterday’s invocation on the House Floor, at the invitation of Rep. Julie Rogers. It was great to see her, and listen to her inspiring words about integrity, empathy, and collaboration amongst different groups.

I joined some of my colleagues and LGBTQ+ advocates for a Townhall discussion. It was an amazing opportunity to meet with community members and activists to discuss how the Michigan Legislature can support the LGBTQ+ community during a time of unprecedented attacks on trans and nonbinary people.

I voted for a budget that invests in people and looks out for seniors, families and kids in our communities. Major investments in Medicaid, school meals, election administration services and so much more will ensure Michigan families receive the support they need to thrive in our state.

I voted yes on a school aid budget that will restore critical funding for rural transportation, special education, and at-risk students, In addition, schools in the 75th House District will see an increase so that they can provide the necessary resources our students need to succeed.

Protecting our homes and neighborhoods starts with strong infrastructure. That’s why I testified before the Approps Subcommittee on Labor and Economic Opportunity, asking for support to repair the Lake Lansing Dam. Fixing it now will prevent flooding and protect our community for years to come.

House Republicans passed HB 4160, which would effectively stop the state from adopting policies that are stricter than federal regulations. This is a blatant attempt to stop any regulations that Republicans do not agree with, even if they are legally implemented.

I joined my colleagues to introduce a Tenant Package that will make landlord-tenant laws more fair and enforceable. My bill HB4983 will extend the redemption period that a tenant can comply with a court judgment from 7 days to 14 days giving tenants breathing room when dealing with court proceedings

Yesterday, I spoke out against HB4515. Despite costing the state millions, the legislation would have almost zero impact on actual Bridge card fraud. Instead, it will create unnecessary burdens for those struggling to make ends meet during a time where costs for essential goods continue to rise.

Republican’s budget proposal would slash millions of dollars to EGLE, impacting hundreds of positions. These jobs are essential to protect our water quality, and ensure our environment is protected. This would also impact PFAS regulations, allowing PFAS to go unchecked in our communities.

Yesterday, I sent a letter signed by 24 of my Democratic colleagues to express my support for the public release of all government files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Despite sharing the letter with all 110 members of the Michigan House on August 7th, not one Republican signed on to the letter.

Bierlein to share a letter with the Michigan Congressional Delegation urging them to oppose a moratorium to regulate AI in the federal budget.If this moratorium were to be added again, it would restrict authorities from protecting our communities from the misuse and weaponization of AI

Speaker Hall tried to cram the entire budget process into one afternoon, and failed miserably. He took a political gamble by running up to the deadline of the budget process, and it is inexcusable that the price for that gamble will be paid by the schools, teachers and children of this state.

I had a wonderful visit from the Common Ground Resiliency Center and their adorable canine advocate. Common Ground’s Victim Assistance Program has been dedicated to supporting victims of mass violence events and I was honored to be able to speak about how the Legislature can support their programs.

Congress has introduced a moratorium that would restrict state legislatures from introducing legislation to regulate Al, and completely remove current protections. Please, call your Congressperson and Senators and tell them to oppose this moratorium on Al regulations.
