Thinking about how one of the male protagonists in Drakengard literally can't talk as a price for bonding with a female dragon, who does all the talking for him--he's a man whose verbal agency is gone, and in part taken over by a female character. Reverse Nezuko kind of thing.

the monster designs in shf are so well done, like they’re sometimes nothing more than an amalgamation of foliage and blobs of flesh, incl. the mannequins, but it works really well to weave the story together, it feels like an extension of hinako’s depersonalization

Hinako as a protag is really growing on me. Rinko berates her for being “manly” and boyish solely because she gets along with Shu and it cuts deep, man. the game doesn’t shy away from topics of cultural expectations and internalized misogyny, it’s a little too on the nose at times but nice to see
