The imagery of Gog, Magog, Turtle Soup and Dragons was not lost to my parents and their generation of Londoners, but I suspect that these (albeit mocking) civic symbols are lost on today's generation.

Photo 05/2009. The huge redevelopment by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths of their Harding bequest estate, just off New Fetter Lane in the City of London. Neatly painted property ownership marks abound.

Sadly, for better or worse, as a consequence of the Elizabeth Line development in Smithfield in the City of London, we lost this gem. I don't doubt that offal is readily available across the street in London Central Markets (Smithfield).

Photo on left taken 9/2009. Located on Hayne Street in the City of London (just). I presumed that they had been long-gone due to the Crossrail development, BUT when I was in Smithfield a month ago (with camera), I found that they had been cleaned-up and re-sited.

This is good ! :) Worshipful Company of Ironmongers holdings in Finsbury / St Luke's. All from one bequest, I believe. There are some ownership marks dotted around the area.

A lovely impression of the last Hall of the Worshipful Company of Parish Clerks. Sadly bombed during the Blitz. The Company's third and final Hall. Was in Silver Street / Wood Street in the City of London.

A couple of (unattributed) photos of the huge industrial action which took place during the building of the Barbican in the City Of London. c1967 I think. The strikes were quite protracted, to say the least.

The north-south divide runs through the Old Red Lion in Litchborough, Northants. While I was there yesterday two young men asked the landlady to take the sparkler off the Bass, which means - brace yourselves - this pub serves Bass three ways! Can anywhere else say the same? 🤔

I have been a member of Friends of Nunhead Cemetery for almost twenty years. The reinterred remains of the dead of St Christopher le Stocks are buried at Nunhead in a dedicated tomb.

Our new Rector will be living in... the Rectory, which used to be a flat off of Gresham Street in the heart of the City of London. The Diocese sold the gaff; putting our then Rector into a house in the East End. The Diocese then came up with the flat in the tower of St Dunstan in the East. See pic:

A huge privilege and joy (and in some ways a relief) to be present last evening at the Installation etc, of our new Rector. A tremendous, heart-lifting Service. With thanks to all who made it so.

Here is an easy solution: Food stains are humiliating, as they suggest you're a little baby who can't feed themselves. Oil stains, such as those you'd get from working on your car, suggest you're tough, independent, and skilled. Thus, simply cover your food stains with used motor oil.

At 6:00pm today, our new Rector at St Margaret Lothbury, in the heart of the City of London, will be Inducted and Installed. We welcome Rev Tosin to his new role. A Reception follows at Armourers' Hall.

Today: chest x-ray and ankle x-ray (after going flying on the tube train five weeks ago - still swollen). God bless the NHS and all who work in that crazy machine.

There is a spoons *immediately* adjacent and a faux Irish pub along the way with a TV screen on every wall, including the khazi. Nightmare.

@rogerprotz.bsky.social Hi Roger. Sad news: The Builders' Arms, New Barnet (my Local...) is closing down. The leaseholders have had enough. Massive construction work, nearby has badly impacted footfall. A proper back-street Pub - is actually two cottages knocked into one. Not sure what GK will do.

When I happened to bump into the legend that is Rick Beato three years ago. Rick had been in London to record his Abbey Road Studio feature (it's all on YouTube). Similar weather to today :)
