We’ve had literally no one ask but our star sign is Sagittarius. Apparently, “As a Fire sign, Sagittarians are widely known for their adventurous spirit, infectious humour, and relentless pursuit of knowledge and truth.” Adventure? Absolutely, but fire in a timber framed building? We think not! 😬

Ah, Suckling Spendlove. The man with the longest inventory in our probate archive. He had a shop so it includes all your everyday grocery items such as brandy, raisins, spices, soap, 'Wash balls', coffee powder, 'glaized pypes', Naples 'Biskettes', gunpowder, mercury, and 'one box of Druggs'.

We've had an idea for some fun Thursday afternoon activity. Give us a year from 1357 to 1957 and we will give you a name of a Merchant Adventurer who joined the Company that year. For example in 1665 Suckling Spendlove became a member. Yes you heard right. 😆

Would you like to see some wrigglework? Well just because you asked so nicely... This tankard has been decorated with a technique called wrigglework. ⁠Wriggle work often shows animals, flowers and birds, and each design is unique suggesting that these beautiful designs were done freehand!

Did you know that the Charles Bridge in Prague is the same age as the Hall? Construction began in 1357 and it was finished around 1400. Magnificent as it is, its roof is not a patch on ours. 😉

It’s a long weekend! May your Saturday be as gorgeous as these lovely bricks. 20,000 of these lovely (and very early) clay marvels were used to build the Hall. They were purchased from a Carmelite Friary just across the road from the Hall in 1358.
