Getting back to some writing. Still at work on traveling #earlymodern nuns and what these monastic households in transit looked like. I have often argued for the absence of enclosure in early modern convents, but reclusion is an important anchor in these mobile households.

Sunday morning writing session. More often than not, even once they arrived in the town/city where they were making a new foundation, these #earlymodern reforming nuns ended up in temporary lodging, thus prolonging the challenge of preserving stability and monastic discipline.

Have been thinking more about why so many love this #nuntastic story so much. Yes, defiant nuns are always fun, but I think there's something deeper going on here about women and community--and a cultural tension around women having the "audacity" to choose to live together but apart from men.

Unsurprisingly, I love this #nuntastic story--especially at a moment when I'm deep into a project about #earlymodern convent households and how the nuns *themselves* define and structure community.
