St Lawrence excavation, Day 14: Excavation is coming to an end. Area 3 gave us a hard time with postholes all over the place, but we are nearly done with them. 💪🏼 Ros from #Underground came and helped with her GNSS survey equipment. I can't wait to work on the map 🗺️ Last day tomorrow... 🥁

St Lawrence excavation, Day 13: In Area 2, the top part of the fill of Ditch 14 gave us a little surprise. 🎁 What looked like a domestic oven at first is more likely to be a wall that went through high temperature. A section would help to understand but in the meantime, we got sherds! 🤌🏼

St Lawrence excavation, Day 12: Today was our Open Day and we had a busy afternoon with the visits! Many thanks to the public for the interest and the lovely discussions we had. 🫰🏼 Now it's time to finish the dig and, as usual, the unexpected things will pop up soon... 😬

St Lawrence excavation, Day 8: Halfway there already. Only a week and a half until the end of the dig.⏳ Ed and Emilia moved to Area 2 while the last features of Area 1 are getting excavated. In ditch 11, Thérésa had her first Iron Age rim sherd and even some animal teeth. Congratulations to her! 👏🏼

St Lawrence excavation, Day 7: Today was Drawing Day for a few of us, so Olli, Dave, Ruth and Tahnee have been busy taking measurements. 📐📝 In the meantime, some hidden features were recognised but a little bit of rain would help at this point...! 🌧️

This Late Iron Age multivalate fort may be small (2,5 ha) but the fortifications are impressive & well-preserved! Sir M. Wheeler and L. Scott (later known as Murray Threipland) excavated the site in 1938. ⛏️

Hello #HillfortsWednesday! A view of the coastal promontory (8,5 ha) of the Châtelet, Island of Yeu (Vendée, France). The site has been fortified from the Late Bronze Age to the Late Iron Age. I surveyed this site in 2017 and was quite impressed by the #erosion of the cliffs... 🌊

Some thoughts for #hillfortswednesday🧐 At the "edge of the world", could the remains of the Pointe du Raz (Finistère) match with the peninsula of Kabaïon (Κάβαιον)? 🌍 This small fortified site (1 ha), long thought to be from the Iron Age, is more likely dating from Neolithic and/or Bronze Age.

Already mentioned this site a while ago for a different #HillfortsWednesday! Lostmarc'h in Crozon (Brittany, France), "Horse Tail" in Breton language.🐎 I had the chance to study this small bivallate rocky spur dated from the 1st millennium BCE. #Erosion is slowly destroying the site...🌊
