listening comprehension watching these dramas goes like they're talking about interpersonal relationships, etc: 15-25% comprehension they're talking about Political Factions & whatnot: 2-3% comprehension.

they say that you can get by knowing 2000-ish words, but 5000 is literate, and 10,000 is about what a well-educated high school graduate would have, so i suppose it's just shocking how much ~600 words gets you. you know?

haha, 韩语 (hányǔ)was a new word this lesson and i really wish we would've gotten a practice sentence using both it and 汉语 (hànyǔ) in the same sentence, but there's probably a good reason they went with 中文 (zhōngwén) in this sentence instead

i have been focusing on listening comprehension over trying to construct sentences myself yet (although i did buy a grammar book so...) but. hm. "1-2 days ago in the drama i was watching, i heard a really interesting use of the word "才", something like this? : "一两天以前我看的电视剧上听过很有意思的用词“才”"?

honestly, i'm pretty nervous about the next place i should look to study new vocabulary after i finish lessons on immersive chinese--there's like, 185, and i'm already on 121. it's the best I've ever found for that. everywhere else just wants you to do spaced repetition flashcards

Culture and practicality aside, I’m absolutely fascinated with symbols. Abstract symbols that have meaning by popular consensus. And the speed and grace with which human beings can learn to employ those symbols to convey basic needs and complex thoughts It’s incredible

favorite vocab word from yesterday was 不小心, used in sentences where its meaning was closer to "accidentally". 小心,careful, was already delightful to me, but now im curious about the etymology of "accident" in english
