Name changes are completely reversible and are not medical at all. The only reason to ban them is simply to harm trans people and discourage us from living our truth. There is substantial research indicating that not being able to make name changes causes substantial harm to trans people.

Doctors love to deny trans people necessary surgeries for reasons of size. While there is some evidence to back up increased danger at higher BMIs, this does need to be balanced against the needs and autonomy of an individual. Certainly no one should be forced to lose weight in order to get surgery.

Again, these are the actions of someone who is suffering serious depression, and most likely other serious mental health issues. I hope Ben Ryan reads this skeet and takes it as his moment to take action for his own mental health.
