Let's see, so far I've found reports of raids around Omaha, Lincoln, Lexington, and Grand Island. You know why? I bothered to look in places that will report on it.

There is not a chance in hell the majority of people on this website (or any other) would have a *clue* if ICE was raiding, say, Frenchman Valley Produce or a packing plant in North Platte. Who would even tell you?

Watching a slow dry spring explode into green with a mere few days of clouds and showers reminds me again of how much water this region takes, and how little it is getting. We're headed into our 18th year of extended drought/water table drop.

I see a lot of talk of farm subsidies from people who are clearly not familiar with the topic. I, just like most farmers, have never received subsidies. I've found that when I try to inform people on this topic they like to argue, so here's a popular rich man in a suit: youtu.be/MI78WOW_u-Q?...

I should've pruned more effectively but watching this tree explode every spring is a joy.

Our backup barnyard mix roo- he's got all of our desired personal flock qualities except he's terrible with hens. He's only here in case we lose one of the other roos. I'd love to throw him in with a new set of feisty grown hens to put him in his place but avian flu put a stop on that.

We started implementing increased biosecurity SOPs for H5N1 about three years ago now, and between that and COVID, I don't know that we'll ever truly reopen the farm to the public. I miss doing education but the risks are so high.

February has stayed cool so far for the most part, though I'm still seeing signs of spring too early. I suspect the ground isn't fully frozen. Interested to see what state the grass is in when the snow melts- I doubt it fully died off.
