Ursula von der Leyen has come to the defense of the European Union’s embattled carbon market, hitting back at complaints that the bloc’s flagship climate policy is threatening factories and jobs.

For once, Europe’s heavy industry is lobbying to save a climate law. Manufacturers are worried the European Commission is undermining the bloc’s new carbon tariff regime, a key pillar of EU climate policy.
