I'm setting target grades today for year 12 and for the first time we've been given each student's average GCSE grade as a way of helping us decide. Huge eye opener! Everyone has a 7-9 in maths but average GCSE grade varies from 4.33 to 9.00! Seems a very good indicator so far.

In #mathstoday my students were doing some proof by induction and I HATE the way their previous teacher taught them to write their conclusions (although I know it's perfectly valid). How do you write yours? #alevelmaths

After reviewing scripts of students who were one or two marks off the next grade in A level maths, I think we've decided to switch away from AQA. Mark schemes are pedantic and punitive. Lose 4 marks for one slip? Can't allow "not enough evidence", must be "insufficient evidence". Frustrating!

#mathstoday #alevelmaths I created this little spreadsheet activity for Maclaurin series. The students are rubbish with spreadsheets so this was a challenge for them but they really enjoyed it and it shut them up for ages
