Remembering my Grandpa tonight on his birthday. The guy who introduced me to Star Wars and LOTR. The reason I'm a White Sox fan. We always had a new book to talk about, and he encouraged my writing. He attended every show my high school band played. He would've been fascinated by my running journey.

My 2024 eclipse shots came up in conversation today. The total eclipse looks unpolished, but I like it. It's a reminder that I took these with a cell phone mounted to the eyepiece of a Costco telescope. "Unpolished but passionate" is how I roll. I'd like to get this printed on canvas eventually.

I was already souring on Roku for adding advertising to their screensavers and home screen and more. This is just the last push for me to get a home theater PC and bring my PiHole back to life. This era of consolidation - especially around right wing orgs like Fox - is awful for us regular people.

I wore my Day 1 Cocodona shoes for this run. Just 75 hard miles on them and a coat of Bradshaw Mountains dust. And I had a great post-rain run in them. It was fun and it was freeing. I chuckled as I climbed a hill and remembered that the last hill these shoes had seen was Mount Union. #running

Track Club Tuesday! 1 mi warmup 4x 400m, 3 minute recovery. 4x 200m, 2 minute recovery. 1 mi cool down 73, 76, 77, 82 second 400s. 44, 45, 41, 39 second 200s. The heat and lack of hydration today crushed me after the third 400, but I still enjoyed the hard work. 193 max HR! New 400m PB! #running

We did host a little porch party with a few neighbors afterwards, where I recounted some Cocodona stories. One neighbor is training for her first trail 100 miler at the age of 60, and she was all questions. I'm excited for her 💪

The track club wasn't super social, but I met a few people and enjoyed it. The workout was 2x 800m time trials. I haven't raced on a track in about 19 years! My bullet list of Cocodona memories is finally complete. 21 pages single-spaced. It feels like a monumental task, turning that into a comprehensive, detailed, emotional race write-up. Everything felt so BIG. Meaningful. Consequential. I hope I can still do the experience justice. I'm excited to try.

My calves were sore for 2 days after racing 4 miles on Thursday, demonstrating how misleading running recovery can be: I *feel* almost normal, 2.5 weeks after Cocodona. But all it takes is 2 miles to highlight how fragile that feeling is. This is how I usually injure myself shortly after big races.

So much of what passes for political discourse is actually one person having a disgust reflex about someone else's life choices (or not choices, just reality) and retroactively trying to justify those by some kind of moral reasoning.

Last run before the big race on Thursday. We all know I've had an up & down training block this spring. Some have questioned the wisdom of a 258 mile training run 2 weeks before my goal race. But I believe in trusting the process. By the grace of God I hope to throw it down at Thursday's four miler.

It's tough being a morning creative with a full time job. I'm in flow state before I'm even fully awake. Sentences finally come easily, and I remember why I enjoy writing. Then it's time to clock in. The carriage becomes a pumpkin. When I return after work, inspiration is a dull blinking cursor.
