I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance". It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder". The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.

I'm listening to the audiobook of The Lost Passenger by @franquinn.bsky.social and it's brilliant! A wonderful historical fiction novel about a woman who survives the sinking of the Titanic and grasps an opportunity to start a new life. Highly recommended! Fantastic narrators too.

I'm re-plotting a book right now. For me (a planner) this is the stage before I start drafting, but I find it really tricky to hold a whole book in my head and make sure every chapter is in the right place. It feels like I'm making very slow progress. Any tips for novel planning?

We are experimenting with a screen-free week for my four-year old this week. I didn't expect a big revelation, but so far it's so nice: her behaviour is better, her sleep is better (sleeping until 6.30 instead of 5.30 👍), and we're doing so many fun activities in the evenings instead of TV time. 🥰

Last night before bed I went into my daughter's room to check on her and tuck her in. She was lying on her back, snoring lightly with her arms up by her head. I watched her for a moment, listening to her breathing before whispering 'good night'. What a privilege it is to get moments like that.

Oooh today is my favourite kind of day: I'm starting a new book! The new book - of course - is currently Shrödinger's book: both the best and the worst book ever written. And for the first 20k words in my deluded mind it's usually the best so yayyyyyy for delusions and long may it continue!

Do you ever have one of those days where everything goes wrong? Yesterday was one of those: everything felt off and I just wanted to reset the day. Instead I went to get some shopping and dropped my phone and shattered the screen beyond repair, making the day even worse. Today is better.

Update: today my daughter ate ham sandwiches at a party and then came home and demanded chicken nuggets. On the subject of dinner tomorrow she asked for "something pescatarians don't eat"... so never mind, I guess? 😂

The hardest thing about being a writer is that you absolutely have to work it like a job, but it will not pay you like a job. This job pays like a hobby with prizes.
