Carrying out a mental capacity assessment is complex. 📝 Social workers on the panel will need to see the person seeking an assisted death where there is a question about mental capacity. We’re therefore calling for this right to be made explicit within the legislation.

⚠️ Our social care system is in crisis. Throughout the debate on assisted dying, we've consistently raised concerns about significant waiting lists for care and unmet needs across the country. It was a point we once again emphasised to politicians at today's session ⬇️

Two key recommendations we've made to Peers for changes to the Assisted Dying Bill: 1⃣ Social workers on the panel need legal powers to access records. 2⃣ Adult safeguarding decisions should be taken independently of local authorities. Watch this extract from our evidence earlier 👇
