Francisco Chávez said his life changed forever after counterfeit Keytruda coursed through his veins. He now suffers from chronic back pain and episodes of paralysis, preventing him from working and undermining his financial security.

ICIJ partners in Argentina found that when a local pharmaceutical company launched its biosimilar version of pembrolizumab in January 2025, retail prices for Keytruda fell sharply, and a greater number of patients gained access to the medication.

The #CancerCalculus investigation found that Merck reduced its U.S. taxes by recording profits in lower-tax jurisdictions. In its 2025 annual report, Merck disclosed it paid around $1.6B in U.S. income taxes, compared to $4.5B in other countries.
