All of our children and neighbors deserve to be safe in their own communities. MPD has tragically confirmed that a 12-year-old and 14-year-old have died after a double shooting in Northeast yesterday.

Our firefighters put their lives on the line to protect our communities every day and it is imperative that we stand with them and our public workforce to ensure they are properly paid and have fair benefits.

The number one issue I hear from residents across all eight wards is the unaffordable cost of housing in DC.

We have an affordable housing crisis in DC, and we have to take bold action to ensure more residents can afford to live and stay here. Today, I introduced my plan to make this a reality: the HOMES Act.

We must empower women and girls in our communities to thrive. It was so great to meet with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women to discuss our shared goals of enhancing gender equality in education, healthcare, and employment, and more throughout the District.

We must ensure we are providing safe spaces for young people to gather while also using effective crime prevention tools like the juvenile curfew, which has reduced juvenile crime without leading to more arrests.

I am blown away by our women entrepreneurs in DC. Nearly half of our businesses are owned by women — a metric we are leading the nation in!

I introduced this important bill because DC residents deserve to know what’s going on in our own communities.

I am incredibly disappointed the federal government announced plans to remove the extremely important and used protected bike lane on 15th Street along the National Mall.

I have been meeting with residents across the District to discuss what needs to be prioritized in DC's upcoming budget. It was great to join neighbors at the Columbia Residences in the West End and get their input on ways to best serve District residents.

Two years since my bill, Secure DC, was signed into law. Secure DC included more than 100 public safety interventions that enhanced crime prevention, crime accountability, and government coordination and oversight – and we are seeing the results.

Today, the Council unanimously passed my bill to provide transparency and accountability to what is happening in our streets by federal agents.

Transparency when there is a use of force by federal agents is essential for the public and for the families who are affected.

So great to honor the incredible advocacy work by DC families, teachers, and advocates who have been part of “Recess at the Capitol,” which works hard to ensure our kids and schools are protected and supported even in the face of federal interference in our local budget.

Transparency will help lead to justice. We just wrapped up our nearly 12 hour hearing on public safety agencies including the Metropolitan Police Department.

If an MPD officer is present when there is a serious use of force incident involving a federal agency, the public must have access to the MPD body-worn camera footage to better understand what happened. My new bill enhances transparency by requiring the release of the footage and incident details.

Today, I introduced a bill to enhance transparency with use of force incidents involving federal agencies by requiring the release of Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) body-worn camera recordings and incident details of federal agencies using force that occur while MPD is present.

More than half the people living in DC are renters. We must make the process to find an apartment more affordable and transparent to support our residents and attract new ones.

As we continue to recognize great Black DC icons this Black History Month, let us remember and celebrate Duke Ellington, a legendary composer and artist who was a mainstay of U Street’s Black Broadway.

Everyone who lives in DC deserves to have a say in our local legislative process. Here in the District, people serving a sentence at the DC jail can vote in our elections, yet they are left out from being able to testify at our DC Council hearings.

As this week marks the beginning of Lenten season, may we strengthen our resolve, promote healing, and foster unity. I join fellow Catholics in honoring this season of reflection.

All residents and visitors in DC deserve to have a 911 call center that is efficient, speedy, and accurate.

We must make renting more affordable in DC. My bill in my Prosper DC plan called the Renter Tax Credit Amendment Act allows recipients to get their stipends monthly instead of yearly and expands eligibility for people in temporary housing. Learn more below 👇
