Good public safety news: At our request, MPD has installed a new camera at the intersection of 12th and M Street NW in response to public safety concerns like drug activity and gun violence in this area.

DC knows how to -- and deserves to -- govern ourselves. The House Oversight Committee advanced a series of dangerous and rushed bills that harm the District’s public safety ecosystem and undermine our right to self government.

The District has faced a lot of challenges together over the last month and I am tremendously proud of my fellow Washingtonians who have made their voices heard. The presidentially declared emergency in our city is over.

Today marks 24 years since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. We must never forget the sacrifices and bravery of our first responders who answered the call that day and we continue to honor DC’s bravest for the commitment to safety they make on our behalf every single day.

Right now, the House Oversight Committee is marking up 13 bills that will negatively impact the District’s autonomy, public safety, and criminal justice system. These bills are an affront to our 700k residents and Home Rule.

Roll-Off Day is coming to Ward 2 this Saturday from 10am to 2pm at the Kennedy Rec Center in Shaw! #cleancitydc #trashfreedc Neighbors will have the chance to get rid of bulk trash and large items including furniture, rugs, tables and chairs.

I am thrilled our DCPS students are now in cell phone-free classrooms! After the Council passed my legislation to remove digital distractions over the summer, the new requirement went into effect at the start of this school year for all DC public schools and begins next year for DC charter schools.

Hiring and recruiting more local officers for MPD continues to be a top priority for me. Increasing officers on the force allows for more consistent and frequent patrols to keep the District safe and allows officers to build stronger relationships in the communities they serve.

Our neighbors continue to show up to share their ideas on how to protect our city and protect one another. It was great to spend some time with our seniors in Shaw and discuss ways we can build safer and prosperous neighborhoods.

We want safe communities and there are serious solutions the federal government needs to get to work on: - Congress fixing $1B budget gap they left for DC - Senate filling judicial vacancies - USAO prosecuting violent crimes The militarization of our streets must end after the 30 day period.

Pretrial release decisions should be based on whether a person poses a safety risk to the community, not whether or not they can afford to post bail.

We must continue to make safety a reality for everyone in DC. The way to accomplish this is by bolstering our local police department and hiring more officers, preventing crime before it happens, holding perpetrators of crime accountable and getting illegal guns off our streets...

My number one priority is the safety of District residents and visitors. It's why I've worked every day as Chair of the Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety alongside the Mayor, the AG, MPD, and my Council colleagues, to drive down violent crime to the lowest it's been in 30 years.

Proposal on the I82 Tipped Minimum Wage ✅ Minimum wage in DC is $17.95/hr (highest in the nation!) ✅ Pre I82, tipped employees had a base wage of $5.95, and made the rest in tips. Employers were required to make up the difference up to the regular min wage if tips weren’t enough.

My Peace DC Plan: Strengthening neighborhood harmony is a key component of my Peace DC plan. We must ensure DC residents can live peacefully in their homes, while also protecting the rights of people to lawfully protest.

The killing of three-year-old Honesty Cheadle is an unimaginable tragedy for her family and our community; my heart breaks for this senseless loss.

I am sending my deepest condolences to the loved ones of Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, who was killed Monday night when he and two others were shot in Mount Vernon Square. I am praying that the other two victims, a woman and a 16-year-old boy, make a full recovery.

Today, the Council will hold a final vote on my Peace DC Omnibus and critical parts of my Peace DC plan. We must get this passed without any amendments to keep our city safe and to continue the progress we have made in reducing crime.

There has much been debate and misconceptions about rebuttable pretrial detention. I want to explain what this law, which is part of my Peace DC plan, does and does not do. The Council will vote tomorrow.
