Shout out to Necrotic Gnome's Old School Essentials by Gavin Norman. It is a perfect remastering of basic and expert edition D&D and in my opinion the best way to introduce newcomers to the hobby. The basic rules are completely free too at their website with a myriad of online freebies and tools!

I never liked the AD&D 2e non-combat skills list, so in my OSR games I use this list from D&D 3.5, instead. It works with both any edition. Characters can add skill ranks they have available to any of these skills.

Haste is a powerful spell in AD&D 2e, but don't forget it ages the recipients by one year on every casting. Characters' physical abilities start to degrade after a certain physical age. Mental abilities increase too, but only if the character has lived up to that age.

PSA: You want to run BECMI or AD&D but your players groan about THAC0? Convert THAC0 to attack bonus by subtracting THAC0 from 20 (for AD&D, 19 for BECMI) and convert descending armor class to ascending armor class by subtracting it from 20 (for AD&D or 19 for BECMI). Your players will never know 😁
