Seen on HN, I hate this concept of "democratization", being very rich guys can now access a skill while driving the price of entry up for everyone else. Coding was very accessible, computers were cheap. Now prices are through the roof so someone who doesn't care about a profession can LARP.

The current situation with Arch and the AUR was... predictable. The AUR is practically the wild west, anyone can upload scripts, users blindly install stuff from there. I recall the time I tried Arch it made me nope the fuck out, it's basically running random scripts from the internet.

still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them

Maybe teenagers in Argentina were different in '99, but none of the tracks on the
#mixtape
soundtrack feel familiar to me. Those years what most people listened Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Korn, Offspring, Blink 182, NSYNC, Britney. If anything the songs feel more Gen X.

And regarding
#MMORPGs
in general, it was a genre I always dismissed. But I now get how relaxing it can be playing at a slow pace with friends, and less mentally taxing than other things I was playing recently (AoE2 for example)

I also experimented hooking a local LLM to have the bots engage in random banter. They are mostly nonsensical... but it led to some fun emergent gameplay like a Troll party member that actually believes he's undead. Battlefield missions become a mess of bots taunting each other.

Turns out playing MMORPGs offline is super easy, specially if you are on Linux. And with bots is actually a super enjoyable experience.

I wish more people started to say out loud that "The Emperor has no clothes". José's take is very nuanced, which is to be expected from his experience.

I have streamlined my homepage a bit, it's more of a linktree style page made with Phoenix's LiveView and a couple of cool bits (like social medie previews)

A bit frustrated with SH3. Definitely not feeling it like the original nor SH2. Amazing soundtrack though

When Ayreon's The Source album dropped I loved it but I thought thematically it was a bit too dramatic. Oh boy I was wrong!

I really miss SWE before AI. I do get the productivity boost and how faster you can go. However I feel like it takes the good parts and leaves you with the slog of code reviews, iterating over regurgitated code, and cleanup. In that regard coding my game has been refreshing.

One of the most difficult things of making a game from scratch is how quickly something that is seemingly a coding task snowballs into a web of dependencies that depend on other skills. Pixel Art, level design, sound design, music

A year ago I started writing my own game engine in Go. With it's first game implementation called. The goal is to make a wolfenstein3d/catacomb abyss style game with a modern language and reusable engine. It is probably the worst way to get into game development but it has been fun so far.

Recently finished Silent Hill 2 Remake for the first time. I was somewhat familiar with the story, but I didn't expect the depth in terms of expressing how difficult is to care for someone that is suffering in the last moments of their life.

Finished Castlevania SOTN for the first time on this ridiculously small console. Amazing game, incredible sprite work. Incredibly bold move to have half the game hidden behind a secret (even though it’s not a secret anymore now ).

New comics added, one of which lets you know the grim future of reproductive rights if Trump is elected and Project 2025 kicks in. (Alt text and image descriptions at the link.)
