#OTD 22 January 1879 the Battle of Rorke's Drift took place, immortalised in the film Zulu. I was fortunate enough to visit the site, and that of the nearby Battle of Isandlwana, in 2003.

Remembering #OTD 29 May 1940 the men of the East Riding Yeomanry &145 Bde who were preparing to make their attempt to breakout from Cassel this evening. Few made it to Dunkirk, almost all were KIA or captured, the only escapees being from B Echelon who departed earlier #Forrard

#OTD 20 Jan 1919 50899 Trooper Cyril Clark 2/1 East Riding Yeomanry died of appendicitis in Hull Royal Infirmary. He joined the #ERY 31 Aug 1914 (no. 1475) aged 20 but for reasons unclear he was discharged 57 days later (27 Oct 1914). 1/2

#OTD 20 Nov 1917 95918 Pte Frederick Deakin 18th Sqn MGC(Cav) died of wounds at the 66th Casualty Clearing Station at Deir el Belah in Palestine. Frederick joined the #EastRidingYeomanry (no. 2224) on 28 Aug 1915. After training with the 3/1st ERY he was posted to the 1/1st ERY in Egypt 1/3
