New Songs Written by myself and Mazz O’Flaherty, she of the smallest record shop in Ireland. The Dingle record shop which is right beside Dick Macks in Dingle, across from the church, which is of course, across the road from Dick Macks! The song is all about the story relayed by two fine Americans we met in Mazz’s record store. They described basically befriending an Irish family, who, on their individual passings,they brought the ashes of the Father, then the Mother and finally, the day before we met, their son Joe. This song is dedicated to the memory of Joe O’Hara who after an emigrant life in the USA, now lies with his parents beneath the waves of Galway Bay. In view of the Aran Islands, the Cliffs of Moher and in the distance, na Beanna Beola (the Twelve Bens). Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n’anam dílis. Seo dhuibh – “The Shores of Connemara” Back in the heady days of 2020 before Covid struck and taught us all a lesson in humility, I was standing in the train station in Tara Street in Dublin taking the evening air, As the trains came and went and it struck me… if I wanted to meet that cute redhead that was standing on the other side of the tracks from me, what is it I would have to do? So I concocted a scenario that ended up being this sweet song about that which might have been! For your listening pleasure… “I Met a Girl” A few years back I got to know a Cuban / Kazakh girl I used to work with and although we lost touch over the years she once gave me a great idea for this song when she mentioned she was in a ‘Fragile State of Mind’ The lovely Dialena was a muse for a few of my songs down through the years but she was always a source of great fun and intrigue so wherever you are girl… I hope things are going your way and in the mean time, I hope this one raises a smile!
