bibliophiles have made an entire aesthetic of the "undread bookpile" and yet when it comes to independent creators, usually ones too "other" for traditional publishing, asking for small sums for epubs or patreon subscriptions, they are maligned as petit bourgeois. at least get a library card!

a lot of internalized isms come to the fore when the conversation around artists being paid and piracy comes around. blockbusters, videogames, official merchandise for overculture releases and the internet excites : an independent creator asks for $9 dollars for an epub and people recoil.
