Friendly suggestion from your bookseller pal: Don't walk into an indie bookshop this holiday season to task for "a terrible book" for your joke gift exchange. Generally, indies are lovingly curated by buyers and staff, who don't think calling their favs trash is very funny. ✌🏻

I have a book cover & stepback to finish. The holiday season looms over the bookshop. I would love to become soup as soon as possible.

I am being kept from sleep by the memory of a customer who came into the shop today and, while holding a book on the Underground Railroad in her hands, called Harriet Tubman Harry Potter. Three times.

Today a customer at the bookshop spent a solid ten minutes trying to tell me I was wrong for not reading a series, despite the fact that I gave her specific reasons why it's just Not My Thing. She told me, "Well, that just doesn't seem like a good reason to not read a book to me." 🙃
