California: In 2024, 13 schools received more than $10 million in NIH grants, for a total of $3.7 billion. Of that, $2.4 billion went directly to research and $1.3 billion went to facilities and administration. The new rate would bring that to $350 million, a loss of about $900 million.

Florida: 8 schools received more than $10 million from NIH in 2024 for a total of ~$673 million. Of that, $442 million went directly ot research and $231 million to facilities and administration. The new indirect cost rate would bring that to $66 million, a loss of $165 million.
