While #ANU was sacking staff due to a "financial crisis", they were also investing in weapons manufacturers. The rest of the world lamented the breakdown of a ceasefire in Gaza, but ANU saw an opportunity to make a quick buck. Unconscionable. @nteunion.bsky.social

Solidarity to @nteunion.bsky.social comrades at #ACU. Striking is a last resort. But when a millionaire VC gets a 5.8% pay rise, and then staff doing the front-line work to achieve ACU's mission get offered 2.5%, staff should be congratulated for standing up for themselves and their university. ✊

This damning report is really worth reading and the language of the authors’ criticism of uni executives and their failure to acknowledge the governance crisis is uncharacteristically strong.

This relates to casual professional staff penalty rates, which were discussed in bargaining talks in 2022/3 including a then-DVC and the then-CPO. If that level of #UniCanberra is aware of the problem, and staff were still being underpaid, it's a governance issue. @nteunion.bsky.social

Much attention has been on ANU but the governance crisis is broad and deep across the sector. Close scrutiny needs to be applied *everywhere*. This is shameful from UTS management.

As much as we applaud @nteunion.bsky.social members exercising their HSR rights to protect their colleagues in the workplace, it should never have been necessary at #ANU.

The university employers association has said they are coming after members' hard-won redundancy provisions, and have again refused to take responsibility for their systemic wage theft. They are going to find out that they will have a fight on their hands. Join today at nteu.au/join

Realistically, we need to change both the Chancellor *and* the current broken system of governance at #ANU.

It has taken time to get university governance on the public radar. Our sector has experienced casualisation, wage theft, & mass job cuts. @nteunion.bsky.social, especially @alisonbarnes.bsky.social, have been great at going after the root cause - the leadership & governance crisis in higher ed.

The Interim Report is out on the Senate's inquiry into the 'Quality of governance at Australian higher education providers'. @nteunion.bsky.social members haven't just been fighting against job cuts, but have also been fighting to ensure they don't ever happen again. ✊

The Change Plans this announcement affects were proposed with 105 involuntary job losses. Through the efforts of @nteunion.bsky.social members, now there will be no forced redundancies. ✊

What does this feel like? Like a tornado has now passed, and we can mourn, and begin the cleanup and repair job. Amazing @nteunion.bsky.social win. ✊️

The @nteunion.bsky.social member who is the HSR involved in this doesn't want the spotlight, but he has been heroic on this issue. He knows who he is, and his colleagues know who he is, so I won't name him here - but congratulations on standing up for your colleagues. ✊

This action at #ANU is unfortunately necessary. @nteunion.bsky.social is supporting members. ANU received a report on this last Thursday, but there was not adequate action. This is a last resort to prevent a worst-case scenario. Renew ANU continues to harm.

Bury the Renew ANU zombie. 🧟‍♂️ At this point the process has been so thoroughly discredited, and is causing so much psychological injury, that it should be abandoned. While high-profile resignations get the headlines, more than 100 people still face the axe.

We can't afford another governance review which only benchmarks #ANU against other Australian universities. We need big ideas on how university governance can be completely transformed. @nteunion.bsky.social, the ANU Governance Project group and others have been doing good work on this!

The @nteunion.bsky.social petition gained over 2000 signatures in a little over 2 weeks. We need an end to forced redundancies and damaging restructures, as well as recognition that governance and leadership issues go well beyond the former Vice-Chancellor at #ANU.
