I'm so happy to finally share this news. This book is about how the past 9 years changed my ideas about family, community, and care, and how those ideas fit into a long history. Huge thanks to my agent
@carolineeisenmann.bsky.social
, who held my hand through much angst, and to my editor Abby Mohr.

For the record. My posts were not even about Kirk directly, but about America's apathy towards political violence, and the coddling of white male shooters and hate peddlers. I was fired because I mentioned race: white men and violence-- that was my "gross misconduct."

one last thing, hopefully not for you, but nevertheless: keep doing the work, humanists. keep writing the stuff that pisses all the right people off, keep teaching your students to imagine better futures, keep learning all kinds of nerdy stuff. we’ll need that knowledge. and that heart. 💜

This loss is hard. Andrea Gibson was and is the patron saint of the Denver slam scene. I came up too late to compete against them, but they shaped the writers who shaped me. Strangers have heard the echo of Andrea's voice in my work. Holding Andrea and their many, many loved ones in my heart.
