Like, I wrote about why I think AI is inimical to the historical method here, but now that it actually forces archives to cut off access by extracting massive amounts of data it should be really obvious:

I still don’t get why this doesn’t solicit a major outcry from historians. The digitalisation of archives has been such an important part of broadening the profession and enabling new approaches. Not enough people as yet understand how digital extractivism works, even if it’s this obvious.
