I was inspired to write about it. There are some really cool but I think understated possibilities that the team built to support with the registry.

MCP now has an official server registry ( blog.modelcontextprotocol.io/posts/2025-...). Unofficial ones have existed for a little bit now, but there are some features (besides being official) that really stick out:

Quit turning your REST APIs into MCP servers! This might be the top MCP misstep I encounter, and a slew of startups and products aren't helping by automating this antipattern. Of course, it's tempting: APIs are APIs after all, right? Wrong.

The current problem with MCP is that there are too few clients and almost no documentation on building clients. Source: currently building a client to support MCP tools and it’s a nightmare.
