Watched THE MARSEILLE CONTRACT (1974) the 1️⃣1️⃣2️⃣th film I've seen starring Michael Caine (not a lot of people know that). A rather bloodless thriller. The components are all there, but the film never exploits them. Still, we get to see Sir Mike in a denim safari suit and there's a funky Roy Budd score.

Watched 3 MUSKETEERS (2011) the 6️⃣9️⃣1️⃣st film I've seen with an exploding helicopter. 🚁💥📽️ This Asylum 'mockbuster' - cashing in on the same year's PW Anderson joint - is actually pretty fun (if you grade on the curve). It's lively with a sense of fun and everyone seems to be trying.

Watched THE YOUNG SAVAGES (1961) Burt Lancaster stars in this thoughtful take on the teen delinquent movie. It's good stuff even if the ending is a little too neat. This was John Frankenheimer's second film and his first with Burt.

Watched THE JUROR (1996) this post-John Grisham legal thriller has terrible reviews, but I don't know why. This is a prime example of the type of slick, trashy, thrillers that studios used to churn out in the Nineties.

Watched HELL SQUAD (1985) "We're not just Las Vegas dancers, we're trained commandos." Cannon distributed action nonsense of the highest order. There's barely a scene where the boom mic isn't in shot. Terrific fun. Currently on Prime in the UK is you want to check it out.

Watched HE RAN ALL THE WAY (1951). John Garfield's final film before his untimely death. This is a very highly regarded noir, but it left me a bit cold. I don't know what it is, but I always struggle with single location dramas.

Watched WITNESS TO MURDER (1954). Good film noir with Barbara Stanwyck trying to convince police George Sanders is a murderer. The great John Alton is on DP duties and the lighting bears his trademark touches. The ending leaves a little to be desired, but that's a minor quibble.

Watched THE SOUND BARRIER (1952). David Lean directed drama that's easier to admire than love. Films like U571, where the Yanks airbrush the Brits out of own history, always rile me.
