Melissa Hortman was known for reaching across the aisle in the MN House. Mike Lee (R UT) said she deserved to be assassinated by a wannabe SA dude. There is no amount of nice that will save you or your neighbors from fascist violence. Do not be nice.

As usual, Blair Braverman's writing is beautiful, sad, and very funny. This is a moving reflection on the changes life brings, and moving forward when it's hard to let go.

What are the very regionally-specific field trips you or your kids went on in school? The Wonder Bread factory, St. Louis, MO. There were freshly denatured Twinkies on offer (or whatever they do to make them).

Well now I'm sick to my stomach. Here's my occasional observation that a relative who left the US to live abroad because of the rising transphobia has said many times they hope it's the most expensive overreaction they've ever had... and so far it is entirely a properly proportional reaction.

Howdy y'all. We need to barnraise some fucking money. Like. A lot. One family needs $4200 and another needs $1800 from the same shitty horrible landlord. They need it ASAP. They're being threatened with eviction and immigration enforcement. There are kids in both homes. V: reedeliot

Anyway. This whole mess of a winter is a hollering example of why the arts and humanities are important and deserve support. Every arts and humanities student ever asked "what are you going to do with that?" Can say "I'm going to help save my neighbors" and it can be true, if they want.

I know people are very aware that the most essential stories are underrepresented now. For good and smart reasons we hear less directly from people most at risk of ICE attention. I hope some time in the near future our collective accounts of this time can include those missing accounts.

I spent $600 of Norm Nation funds to help cover food and drinks. I also spent $150 on flowers, to recognize some of the moms who have been sacrificing so much of their time and energy coordinating the mutual aid efforts at the preschool. You all helped make sure they, literally, got their flowers.

Beginning to wonder the people who behave as the article describes don't love their own especially well, so expecting that they will love strangers is a bit of a reach. Makes me depressed that my favorite passage of the Hebrew Testament has limited utility here.
