I just want to die of something other than not enough insurance. The expectations I have for my representatives is in the absolute basement. And yet evidently I will need to start digging a sublevel in order to lower the bar.

Gail understands being hungry and on your own - she would pay for SNAP and donate to every airport food drive to support TSA employees who are working without pay.

oh sorry too busy worrying about losing insurance and not earning enough money to pay for ACA coverage to listen to mealy mouthed lectures from people who fo not, in fact, get it i don't think you have the slightest idea how catastrophic things will be for voters who just want reps to do SOMETHING

I felt terrible about wanting my reps to hold the line because ACA was that SNAP recipients were in dire straits. I'm glad MN had/has a plan for helping take care of the most vulnerable. Of course, Americans who depend on the ACA are now extra vulnerable. One hurdle at a time, I guess.

Without the ACA I would have been in BIG TROUBLR for several years. Allowing affordable health care to die in America for people who really, really need it is terrible.

The local offices for all my reps had working voicemail, BTW. If the DC office box for your senator is full, try their local office nearest you.

I just used the
@5calls.org
app to call my reps and encourage them not to cave and hand the GOP a blank check in exchange for ending the govt. shut down. They give you a script and phone numbers for local offices. It's easy to do and worthwhile!

every sunday, from pulpits in megachurches across america, white evangelicals cry out about some imaginary persecution of christianity. but i canāt stop thinking about the pile of rosaries collected by a janitor at a border crossing or the priest turned away at the gates of the detention camp.

Being an American is so weird. You have 50+ neighbors whose family fights you can see over your own fence. OTOH NKP. OTOH you have to care, not in a hot gossip way, but in a their mess might become my mess way (abortion travel prosecutions anyone?). Plus in a "do I need to call a crisis team?" way.

The best thing about Mamdani's campaign was how he gave the vibe that he'd have been happy to stick to his very focused message on affordability. Until the snotty rascism came out. Then they made it look like the opposition just handed them the material to just SKEWER that nonsense.

Teen Vogue being collapsed into Main Vogue, laying off its BIPOC and trans staff, and claiming it's going to focus on what's important "to young people" is OMINOUS. And WOW do I have no interest in checking out regular Vogue for anything fluffy or fun, which was pretty much what it was for.

Isn't that the same as saying he lost the primary? Either way, kind of insulted at the idea that I'm not capable of or interested in seeking out accurate reporting. Or of reading with a critical eye and open mind. Nothing in the news is cosy now. I don't need cosy. That's not the issue here.

Once again here to point out in 1997 my self described Catholic School Girl mom had a direct report freak out at her about a trans employee using the bathroom. Mom told the employee to, and I quote, "grow up." TERF panic takes manufacture. I've known this since I was 20 and didn't know the term.

Does it count as lying if I'm called Tanti (iteration of Auntie/Tante) by my bestie's kids (or any other friend's kids as a result)? Or do I get a pass because I'm a mid nice white lady? (Rhetorical. We all know no one would care that I'm Auntie K8C even though none of by siblings have kids.)

I love it when the LLM output references itself in the third person as the author and the student doesn't notice or read or anything and just leaves it in. That's my very most favorite. Best part of the day.
