Earth set a new record for atmospheric moisture in 2024: about 7% more than in 2000. This extra moisture contributed to some extreme rainfall damage, like the $79 billion cost of Hurricane Helene, $20 billion cost of Storm Boris in Europe, and $22 billion seasonal floods in China.
