#Watched Solomon Kane (2009) - “Get in the fucking robot, Solomon-ji!” I enjoy the old stories, they’re pulpy fun, but this grim slog bears only the slightest resemblance. It’s perfectly competent and well-made, which is more than you can say for most films in this genre, but it never sparked joy.

#Rewatched Uninvited (1988) (GK Death Cruise Movie #3) - This movie is so terrible - I love it. The mind boggles at how a giant monster cat can fit inside a fluffy little cat - cat must be the TARDIS inside. Exhibit A on why janky CGI is lame, but janky practical effects are a delight.

#Watched Death on the Nile (1978) (GK Death Cruise Movie #2) - This movie is so breezy, you’re just here to watch assorted thespians ham it up in front of gorgeous Egyptian scenery. Not really a “good” movie, but old fashioned charm, all vibes, plot be damned. And man I love that Nino Rota score.

#Watched Death Ship (1980) (GK Death Cruise Movie #1) - How do you know it’s a goddamn -Nazi- Death Ship? Because it goes after Saul Rubinek before coming for the goyim, tries to murder a naked lady in the shower, and the food is TERRIBLE. Poster is far and away the best thing about the film.

Boichi’s new series The Marshall King is dumb as a rock and I’m entirely reading it for his art, which, shonen or not, no matter what he’s working on, Boichi is a weird freaky pervo, and I am here for it (that gun grip placement, a giant chunky western belt buckle on a g string bikini bottom).

#Watched The Hot Rock (1972) - Read this last year and it didn’t grab me like Westlake usually does. Wasn’t feeling Dortmunder as a character. Well, that’s ‘cause in the book he’s not played by Robert Redford, who takes this shaggy heist tale and imbues it with effortless charm and panache. RIP king

#Watched Command Performance (2009) - Yes, it’s <exactly> “Die Hard at a Concert.” With Bulgaria passing for Russia and Dolph as a drummer with a dark past passing for Bruce Willis. It’s just fine, but ya know, there’s a reason the Die Hard formula is so enduring, because it’s almost always fun.

#Watched L’homme Machine (1885) - So Kraftwerk supposedly based their album and cover on the work of Eli Lissitzky, but this definitely came first.

Played a lot of 20 questions on long car rides with my grandparents as a kid and my grandfather would ALWAYS ask if it was bigger than breadbox which would ALWAYS start an argument about how big a breadbox is. He would also make up words in Ghost and then defend them to the hilt. He was the best.

A friend was going to be having a movie night with their spouse and kids. His wife saw the description for “Watership Down” on MAX and thought it’d be a “delightful cartoon for the kids”. I advised against that, but I was told she knew better. Alrighty. Now I’m getting texted about the kids crying.

Yeah I met Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa while skiing. He was blown away I recognized him in ski goggles. He was learning to snowboard. I was geeking out talking about all of my favorite films he did. He told me about this film Bridge of Dragons as an upcoming project. Genuinely good guy, super nice.

#Rewatched The Killer (1989) - There are certain movies that I’ll always remember watching for the first time because they were game-changing, they broadened my horizons. The Killer is one of those, I stumbled across it in the mid-90s and it absolutely blew my mind. /1
