Every character should be relatable in SOME way. We have to care about them. You can even loathe what the character does and still relate to them. Social status doesn't matter. Nothing matters except making the characters interesting.

During the Clone Saga our plan was: Mary Jane gets pregnant Peter decides that the greatest responsibility isn't being Spider-Man, it's raising a child, being a good father and husband. So I'd say no. That said, I'm sure lots of folks could write great stories with Pete as Spidey and a dad.
