Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge? It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

I am sickened by the relentless demonisation of refugees. No refugee underfunded a school. No refugee closed a hospital. No refugee took away support from the sick and disabled. We need solutions not scapegoats. Stop blaming refugees and tax the rich instead!

I submitted SPOKE for the MIDI awards. Public voting starts soon (now?). There's at least 4 other projects in the awards of people I know and who also deserve to be recognised. So, you know, vote for who you think should win :)

Recording lightning with my solar panel microphone. Dramatic cracks and pops! Each flash of light generates an electrical output from the solar cell, which is connected directly to an audio output.

Ran a podcast workshop in an acoustically cavernous room this week, so built this very diy vocal booth and the results were surprisingly decent!

Two “voice” synth made using strobing LEDs (TeensyLC) shining at a solar cell. I’ve got a third LED shining at an LDR in series on the output of the solar cell, creating a gate-like effect. Would love to add midi and/or CV control for pitch and gate next!

I absolutely love what I do. Giving young musicians confidence, opportunity and skills to be the best versions of themselves. Heres a mini documenatry from CLIP’s (my music non-profit) birthday gig last December.

Putting recordings of lights through a vocoder! I’ve been exploring new ways to use photon smasher recordings and using them as triggers, or sidechain sources, has been fruitful. Here’s a recording from Hiroshima, Japan.

I'm familiar with flexible PCBs, but has anyone tried to make a living hinge PCB? It's possible with plywood/mdf and even acrylic. What about a composite material like FR4?
