Ogawa-san is how I first came to know about China’s new exascale system a while ago, and I assembled a quick spec page a few weeks back (glennklockwood.com/garden/syste...). Notably has a BIG liquid cooled storage system (67 racks, 10 TB/s).

Supercomputer for agents is a bold bet by SJTU and a great thought exercise (if not more). There’s a lot of crap that we drag along in the #HPC stack simply because it makes humans comfortable.

Surprise: Chinese LineShine supercomputer takes the #1 spot on the #Top500 and #HPCG lists! First time since a while that spot is taken by a homogeneous CPU machine. So is heterogeneity here to stay? CPUs with HBM and tensor cores (e.g., ARM SME). Congrats Yutong and folks.

For my #HPC friends, it also describes the stack used to run bulk-synchronous training jobs entirely without Slurm: k8s, kueue, and Ray Train. Superior at scale because a single GPU failure doesn't crash the job; a new worker pod is spun up, Ray registers the worker, and restart is lightweight.

Microsoft AI's report on MAI-1 training is full of interesting infrastructure anecdotes, esp around storage: - Async checkpoint from DRAM to object (no node-local SSD) - Restart is read once, then broadcast - Anyscale Ray for fast restart - Bitwise repro > MFU microsoft.ai/wp-content/u... #AI

Was a great excuse to learn how we do policy enforcement within the service mesh infrastructure underneath individual agent and MCP containers. Offloading some of that policy enforcement to a DPU provides additional speed and trust guarantees.

I got to work with VAST's architects on integrating NVIDIA Vera BlueField-4 STX in-silicon security features with VAST's agent policy enforcement engine. Agent interactions can be inspected and governed at line rate, and policies can adapt in real time. Very slick. www.vastdata.com/blog/vast-ze...

Taisuke Boku follows on another interesting note: Japan is "changing lanes" from CPU to GPU and from "Made in Japan" to a collaborative "Made with Japan", partnering Fujitsu with NVIDIA. "We don't chase fp64 performance but focus on #AI flops". Onward!
