It only took ten years for a dedicated bunch of well-connected weirdoes to get the entire UK elite to unite against a tiny minority of the population that they previously barely noticed. The few to resist, like Robin Ince, deserve our lasting gratitude and respect.

I feel like the media have a responsibility to ignore the Burkes at this stage. I don't mean to stop reporting on them, but to stop giving them a platform to share their nonsense after every disturbance they initiate.

There’s a piece to connect the Burkes to the cruelty of the past. Diarmaid misses it when he focuses on their zealotry over the fact ultimately this hatred was directed at a vulnerable teenager. Polite cruelty would be no more welcome than Burkes rabid version

Important to remember that Enoch Burke is in trouble for failure to obey court orders. But when he refers to his cherished beliefs this is where those beliefs lead. So yes he and his beliefs can all get in the sea.

The Irish Times published and lauded John Collison's op-ed, but did they fact-check it? Andrew Jackson did. Thoroughly. If you spent time reading the original, you'd want to give time to this counterpoint as well.

The EU was considered a world-leader in regulation. They stood their ground on rights-led rule-making in the face of intensive lobbying opposition and in doing so created a "Brussels effect" that drove others to follow. To walk that back in order to simp for US money is, frankly, disgusting.

We’re watching a shift where AI simulates the cohesion and reinforcement that used to require an entire online community. A single person can now build a complete parallel reality with nothing more than a prompt window. Which seems bad.

Today’s systems remove that friction. They amplify the fastest, loudest emotional cues in real time. That acceleration reshapes what politicians think the public wants, and drags policy toward whatever produces engagement rather than grounded priorities.

What has changed is the structure that those emotions move through. We once had institutions and time-lags that slowed reactions, filtered claims, and created space for verification and deliberation. Imperfect, yes, but they created friction.

In the end, we no longer operate in a marketplace of ideas. Platforms run a marketplace of feeling, where attention, not evidence, decides what rises. Emotional charge beats truth every time. Politics adapts to that logic, producing hollow performances instead of functional decisions.
