In my second year as an undergraduate I studied the Irving Lipstadt trial... Is there not an irony that Lipstadt has now become Irving in denying genocide...

This may be a little impolitic but to embrace my inner Australian, the latest shown down in British politics can be summed up as: Count Binface against the C*nt of Dodgy Crypto in a by-election for the ages. Oddly enough the man wearing a bin on his head is less filthy than the other one...

It's a shame that Hugo Rahner doesn't get much notice in the Anglosphere. I find it very difficult to not see Hugo all the way through Karl. If the Anglophones engaged more with Hugo, Karl wouldn't be such an easy villain of their persecution fantasies.

I realised this week, that since the beginning of the US second illegal war this year I have been referring to the USA as "the Great Satan"... It has become my go to name for the US.

I was recently on FB trying to explain to someone that the catholic response to the reformation removed from the faith the magic and the monsters that had been there for the previous 1600 years. We need a good history of Catholic monsters and magic seminar to try and redress this mess...

Very few people are talking about the state of the Iranian community outside of Iran. Those who do narrate stories about fissures and cleavages within an otherwise homogenous “diaspora.” I am not sure how one can do this anymore. There is no diaspora anymore. There are factions, worlds apart.

My distaste for Lonergan is in large part driven that the main example of a Lonerganian is a neo-fascist ideologue, who finds anything moral including genocide so long as it advances his agenda. Lonergan struck me as an easy mechanism for a kind of moral legalism that I find abominable.

Tbh, my attachment to Karl came from a but of his anthropology where he suggests all the fragility of man can be found in Christ. At the time, I was grieving the suicide of someone I loved deeply, and was getting caught on the whole suicides go to hell baggage. Rahner gave me a different way.

What I enjoy about my theology is that unlike a purely speculative theology the horizon of my research is embedded in the embodied realities of humans who lived in a world subject to matter as the principle of limitation, yet orientated towards the infinite absolute as a motive force if the telos.

I keep seeing social media posts that are making me worry that a bunch of theologians over there are trying to create a new Anti-Modernist crusade!

The first real lesson taught by God to man after the banishment from the Garden recorded in scripture is collective responsibility. "Yes, you are your brother's keeper." Individualism is a sin directly rebuked by God. It is in this that I see the divine condemnation of the spirit of capitalism.

Your a Lonergan man, of course you are being too modest! Everything has a theology, it is a consequence of Gnooseological concupiscence!

This is correct but I think forgets that the right has made basically an alt-academy in the US with its own conferences and journals and societies. They’re happy to glom onto regular institutions for credibility. I don’t know how we solve this; Academe is very decentralized.

Working on getting a paper together The Ignatian Thomists were given several names. Platonic Thomists, Augustian Thomists, Cartesian Thomists, Kantian Thomists, Transcendental Thomists. I settled on Ignatian Thomism by asking the question of why rather than what they were doing.

I must confess I still do not like the push on gender inclusive language in academic writing. I often find it jarring when moving from French or German to English, and meaning can change when talking about distinctions of type. Human person/being has ontological consequences that i can not mean.

With the latest war crime revelations, surely we are at the point where serving US military will need to hang "for the good of the service"? I mean machine gunning survivors in the water is an especially heinous crime. Just make sure to hang everyone up the chain of command too.

At Friday drinks last week, I was arguing with a Gilsonian Thomist about a distinction between three meanings of body, using the German Korper and Leib as analogues to the Scholastic Materia Prima, and Materia Secundus, to justify why my theology's telos of "Man 'like' Angels" is not monophysite.

I will once again reiterate my public desire to distinguish between integralists and Integrists... The tendency to not make this distinction clear has enabled too many fans of the Action Francaise to claim ownership of the theological renewal of some of their bitterist enemies.

I wish more of these scholars would actually examine the early Christian movements before making the judgement about who is doing the special pleading... While, yes, we must give creedence to what individuals claim as their identity, we can also acknowledge when they claim it falsely!

The biggest thing I took from Karl Rahner on the Church was the importance of not trying to protect her from her history. Accept it, because what is true will always resonate, and grace will always overcome sin.

I am increasingly dubious that liberal idealism will hold and prevent the decline of the world's greatest super power into an aggressive beligerant. I don't believe the civic religion of the USA will stop an illegal war of conquest.
