At a #museum, you can walk into a room and randomly see a #seaturtle model waiting to be cleaned. Atlantic leatherbacks eat jellyfish, sea urchins & more. The throat of the turtle is lined with backward pointing spines, allowing them to enjoy jellyfish. You can see a preserved throat in the museum.

New Nature Lab resident, who dis? This #spider was found and brought to the #museum. European house spider or giant house spider is a common name often given to a few different species of Eratigena (E. atrica, E. duellica, or E. saeva). These spiders have been found in #NovaScotia since the 1990s.

What's the buzz at the #Museum? Monsters of the Abyss exhibit closes on Sunday, September 7th. Don't miss it.

There are 32 known, native species of goldenrod in Canada. About 20 of those species are found in Nova Scotia. Its blooms are visited by many different pollinators, including bumblebees, wasps, ladybugs, honeybees, and butterflies.

Tansy is a perennial, herbaceous flowering #plant that is native to temperate Europe & Asia. It has been introduced to North America and is considered invasive in some areas. #Tansy has traditionally been used medicinally and is thought to repel some insects making it a good companion plant.

#Native plants, like #yarrow, provide a food source for #insects, nest lining for some birds, and has been used in traditional medicines.

Some ways to save water for gardens (vegetable & pollinator): Place a bucket in the shower to collect water when in use. Save water from cooking, like the water from boiling pasta. Wash/rinse dishes in a plastic bin and save the dish water. Let water cool before pouring on gardens & grasses.
