This poem was published in the Mudlark Flash series just before the 2016 election. Sadly, the first six of these dreams have now come to fruition in one way or another. Time will tell if the same holds true for the seventh dream.

A poem for my father.

Here’s a poem for “No Kings” day. I wrote this poem years ago when the idea of Donald Trump as president was a joke on The Simpsons. Sadly, the joke is on us. Thank you to the British magazine Long Poem for originally publishing this poem back in 2010 and to Mudlark for reprinting it in 2016.

While antiquing yesterday, I found a vintage 1950 Islander ukulele designed by Mario Maccaferri. The dealer had it labeled as a “toy guitar.” I paid all of $12 for a ukulele that’s worth between $150-$300. It just goes to show you that there are still treasures out there just waiting to be found.

Memory loss runs in my family, so every new Memorial Day makes me wonder if I am one year closer to forgetting.
